WICHITA, Kan. (Jan. 24) – Roddy Ross stopped all 33 shots and got enough offense to help Wichita claim a 1-0 win over Tulsa on Saturday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Ryan Finnegan scored the lone tally in the game with an assist to Michal Stinil. Ross earned his first pro shutout and pushed Wichita above .500.
The two teams played an even first 20 minutes. Wichita outshot the visitors by a 13-9 margin.
In the second, Finnegan scored at 4:57 to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Stinil intercepted a pass near the right circle. He fed it over to the right post to Finnegan, and he buried it into an empty net.
Wichita had an early lead in the shot department in the first 10 minutes of the third. The Thunder had a 10-1 advantage before the Oilers pushed back late in the frame.
The Oilers pulled Vyacheslav Buteyets late in the contest and called their timeout. Ross made several key saves in the closing minute, and Wichita held on for the win.
With the victory, the Thunder have earned points in three-straight games. Wichita has fired 30 or more shots in nine-straight contests. the Thunder improved to 3-1-0 against the Oilers in the season-series.
Finnegan has game-winners in two of his last three games and tallied his third of the campaign. Stinil has helpers in back-to-back outings. Jay Dickman appeared in his 400th ECHL game of his career.
Wichita and Tulsa both went 0-for-1 on the power play.
The Thunder closes a six-game homestand tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m. against the Oilers.
