Quick Start Not Enough in Loss at Allen on Wednesday

ALLEN, TX (Jan. 7) – Wichita raced out to a three-goal lead, but failed to hold on and lost on Wednesday night, 6-4, to Allen at Credit Union of Texas Event Center.

Matt Crasa led the Thunder with two goals. Jay Dickman and Ryan Finnegan also found the net. Roddy Ross suffered the loss, stopping 23 shots.

The offense got it going again in the first period, jumping out to a 3-0 advantage. Crasa made it 1-0 at 8:45. Spencer Blackwell fed a backhand into the high slot. Crasa found the loose puck and hammered a backhand to make it 1-0.

At 19:15, Crasa extended the lead to two. Nick Nardecchia made a nice play below the goal line in the left corner. He fed a pass to Crasa at the edge of the left circle, and he quickly lifted a shot over Marco Costantini for his fourth of the year.

Dickman tallied his sixth of the campaign with seven seconds left in the first. During a net-mouth scramble, Kyle Crnkovic sent a pass to the blue paint. Dickman found it and tucked home a backhand to make it 3-0.

The Americans got on the board early in the second. Danny Katic tipped home a shot from Colton Hargrove on the power play to cut the lead to 3-1.

At 7:52, Ty Prefontaine tallied his second of the year to make it 3-2. He stepped off the wall at the right point, and his shot hit a body in front of the net and got past Ross.

Finnegan re-gained a two-goal advantage for the visitors at 13:31. Michal Stinil found him between the circles, and he wired a shot past Costantini.

Allen answered just over a minute later to cut the lead back to one. Brad Morrison found some room at the top of the left circle, and he beat Ross for his third of the year.

Bradyen Watts tied the contest at 16:37. Spencer Asuchak stayed onside coming up the right wing, got around a defender near the goal line and sent a pass into the slot. Watts was all alone and beat Ross for his 13th of the season.

Hargrove scored the game-winner at 4:18 of the third. He put home a rebound during a scramble near the blue paint. The goal was reviewed for potential goalie interference but stood as called on the ice.

Colby McAuley made it 6-4 at 15:06. Kyle Jeffers was looking to spring a man up the ice, but his stick snapped in half. Allen countered the other way and McAuley beat Ross as he cut across the net for his ninth of the year.

The Thunder pulled Ross with two minutes left and had a few chances to climb back into the game. Costantini robbed both Dickman and Peter Bates near the crease and the Americans held on for the win.

Wichita has outscored its opponent 6-0 in the opening frame over the last two games. The Thunder surrendered a season-high four goals in the second period.

Crasa recorded his first two-goal game of his career. Bates tallied his 200th pro point with an assist. Crnkovic has seven points in his last three games. Dickman extended his point-streak to a season high six games. Finnegan has four points in his last two outings.

Wichita was 0-for-1 on the power play. Allen went 1-for-5 on the man advantage.

The Thunder stays in Texas on Friday for a rematch against the Americans starting at 7:10 p.m.
