Wichita, KS (August 24th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, announced today the signing of defenseman Alex Miner-Barron.

"After a season away from home, I knew that I was ready to make the transition back to North American hockey," said Miner-Barron. "As soon as Wichita's name came up and after speaking with Coach Cameron, it was a no brainer. From the fans to the city, I couldn't be happier to be calling Wichita home this next season."

Miner-Barron, 26, returns to North America after playing his rookie season in France with Strasbourg. A native of Glendora, California, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound blueliner registered 29 points (3g, 26a) in 44 games. He led all French League defenseman in assists last year.

"Alex is a versatile player that can play both forward and defense," commented Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "In the ECHL, it's important to have guys that can be multi-dimensional once call-ups and injuries happen. We look forward to seeing him in a Thunder uniform."

Miner-Barron becomes the 15th player announced this offseason and joins Matt DeBlouw, Dyson Stevenson, Jeremy Beaudry, Travis Ewanyk, Etienne Boutet, Justin Hamonic, Istvan Sofron, Louick Marcotte, Marc-Olivier Crevier-Morin, Justin Crandall, Jamie Doornbosch, Matt Tipoff, Gerrad Grant and Shaquille Merasty on the roster.
