WICHITA, Kan. (Nov. 7) – Jake Sibell made 39 saves, and Wichita fell on Saturday night to Tulsa, 3-1, at INTRUST Bank Arena on Native American Heritage Night.
The Tulsa netminder saw 34 shots in the final 40 minutes of regulation. He was named the number one star for his performance.
Lukas Jirousek put the visitors on the board 8:17 into the game. He cut in behind a Thunder defenseman and popped a shot over Matt Davis to make it 1-0.
At 15:18, Max Itagaki increased the lead for the Oilers. Ethan Benz intercepted a pass from below the goal line and fired a shot on net. Itagaki pounced on a loose puck in the crease and tallied his third of the year to make it 2-0.
Wichita turned up the pressure in the second period and tilted the ice down the stretch. Sibell stopped 13 shots in the frame, including a highlight reel save on Tristan Sarsland. He drove up the ice on a shorthanded chance and came across the front of the net. Sibell robbed him to keep it a 2-0 game.
Early in the third, Michal Stinil scored his third of the year to put the Thunder on the board. Samuel Huo cut around the net and found him near the left circle. Stinil hammered a one-timer through Sibell to make it 2-1.
The Thunder outshot the Oilers 21-8 in the final 20 minutes, but failed to level the contest. Zachary Murray found an empty net at 19:53 to close the scoring.
Stinil has goals and points in back-to-back games. With his marker, he ties Connor Lockhart for the team-lead with seven points. Huo has assists in back-to-back games. T.J. Lloyd added his second helper of the season.
