Thunder Suffers 5-2 Setback vs. Steelheads

WICHITA, Kan. (Feb. 13) – In front of 11,047 fans in attendance, Wichita began a three-game series on Friday night against Idaho, losing 5-2 at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Noah Beck led the way for the Thunder with two points. Roddy Ross suffered the loss, stopping 29 shots. 

The Thunder opened the scoring just 3:26 into the game. Beck made a beautiful stickhandling move at the right circle and beat Ben Kraws to the far side with a shot off the post and in to make it 1-0.

Idaho scored the next five in the contest to grab a 5-1 lead. Kaleb Pearson connected on the power play at 5:27 to tie the game. 

Robbie Holmes made it 2-1 at 6:43. He stepped around a defender off the rush and beat Ross with a nice backhand for his eighth of the year.

Chris Dodero extended the game to 3-1 at 15:11. He hammered a shot from the slot for his fifth of the campaign.

In the second, Mitch Wahl fired a wrist shot from near the right circle that beat Ross just 1:20 into the frame to make it 4-1. 

At 13:32, Liam Malmquist connected for his 16th of the year to make it 5-1. He found a rebound after Ross was caught off the crease and slid it just over the goal line. 

In the third, Declan Smith cut the lead to 5-2. Kirby Proctor stepped down the slot and fired a shot on net. Smith redirected it past Kraws for his sixth of the season.

Wichita has fired 30 or more shots in 16 of its last 17 games. The loss was also the first in the season-series between the two teams decided by two or more goals. 

Beck has points in three-straight outings. Bates recorded an assist, giving him points in his last three. Dickman also collected a helper, giving him points in four of his last five. Proctor has assists in three-straight contests. 

Wichita went 2-for-6 on the power play. Idaho was 1-for-4 on the man advantage. 

The Thunder remains at home on Saturday night to host Idaho. Faceoff is set for 6:05 p.m.
