Thunder Opens Week with Win vs. Rush

WICHITA, Kan. (Feb. 4) – Spencer Blackwell scored a pair of goals, Roddy Ross stopped 35 shots and Wichita skated past Rapid City on Wednesday night, 4-2, at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Jay Dickman and Declan Smith each had two points. Michal Stinil notched his 10th goal of the season while four others found the scoresheet.

Dickman got things started just one minute into the game. Nico Somerville made a great play up the ice, fed it over to Dickman at the right circle and he fired a one-timer past Connor Murphy to make it 1-0.

Rapid City tied the game at 13:08 when Ryan Wagner put a one-timer from the slot past Ross for his 16th of the campaign.

Blackwell scored the next two goals of the contest. His first came at 1:33. Two Rush players collided near their bench, which sprung a chance the other way. Blackwell skated down the right wing and fired a shot past Murphy to make it 2-1.

His second came at 18:20. Nick Nardecchia made a great play at the right circle, throwing a backhand into the slot. Blackwell collected it off his skate and beat Murphy through the five-hole to make it 3-1.

Stinil increased the lead at 8:01 of the third period. He came out of the penalty box, caught a long outlet pass to spring him on a breakaway and beat Murphy to make it 4-1.

Wagner recorded his second of the contest at 15:07. Dickman tried to find Peter Bates near the crease. His pass skipped off the boards and cleared out the zone. Wagner outraced a defenseman and beat Ross to make it 4-2.

Rapid City pulled Murphy with two minutes to go in the contest, but the Thunder held on for the win.

Wichita extended its streak of 30 or more shots on net to 13 games, firing 35 on goal. The Thunder had 21 shots in the second frame.

Stinil has goals in three-straight. Blackwell netted his first multi-goal game of his career. Dickman had a goal and an assist. Smith recorded his first two-assist game of the season.

Wichita went 0-for-3 on the power play. Rapid City was 0-f0r-4 on the man advantage.

The Thunder remains at home on Friday night to host Rapid City. Faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
