WICHITA, Kan. (Feb. 7) – Kyle Crnkovic scored a power play goal with one second remaining in regulation to propel Wichita past Rapid City, 4-3, on Saturday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Jay Dickman, Noah Beck, Michal Stinil and Crnkovic each had two points. Roddy Ross claimed his 11th win of the year, stopping 32 shots.
Rapid City came out fast in the opening frame. The Rush outshot the Thunder in the first, 14-5.
Just 23 seconds into the second, Peter Bates put Wichita on the board. Dickman fired a shot from the right wall that Bates caught a piece of near the crease. The puck slipped through Rico DiMatteo into the net. The officials reviewed the play for a possible high stick, but the goal stood.
Rasmus Ekstrom tied the game at 1:55. He walked off the right wall just inside the Wichita line and beat Ross from the slot for his 10th of the year.
At 7:09, Dickman made it 2-1 for his 11th of the year. Spencer Blackwell made a great play in the right corner, curled up the boards and sent a pass across the zone. Dickman fired a one-timer past DiMatteo.
Just over a minute later, Ryan Finnegan made it 3-1. Stinil entered the zone on the left wing. He found Finnegan across the ice down the right seam. Finnegan outwaited DiMatteo and beat him for his eighth of the year.
Late in the frame, Seth Fyten tallied a shorthanded goal to cut the lead to one. Noah Beck tried to walk the blue line but lost the puck. Cameron Buhl raced the other way, took a shot that hit off of Ross and went behind the net. Buhl stayed with the play and found Fyten in front for his second of the season.
Quinn Olson tied the game at 2:21 of the third. Ryan Chyzowski got to a puck that was dumped into the zone. He walked off the boards and took a shot from the right circle. Olson found the rebound and beat Ross for his seventh of the year.
The Thunder benefited from several penalties called on the Rush in the last eight minutes of regulation. Blake Bennett was called for a high stick after clipping Gormley in the face at 18:18.
Crnkovic took a pass from Stinil at the top of the circles. He unloaded a shot as time winded down. The puck beat DiMatteo through a screen to make it 4-3.
Wichita extended its streak of firing 30 or more shots on net to 15-straight games after putting 35 on DiMatteo.
Dickman has goals in three-straight and five points over his last three. Crnkovic netted his 21st of the year and has points in his last three outings. Stinil had two helpers, giving him points in four of his last five. Blackwell has points in his last three contests. Bates tallied his 14th of the year.
