STATELINE, NV (April 25) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, looks to extend its first-round series tonight at 9:30 p.m. CST against Tahoe in Game 4 of the Mountain Division Semifinals.
This is the first-ever meeting between the Thunder and the Knight Monsters in the postseason. Tahoe leads the series, 3-0.
Former Thunder forward Logan Nelson scored a controversial power play goal in overtime to hand Tahoe a 5-4 win in Game 3. Peter Bates was assessed a tripping penalty that gave the Knight Monsters their fourth chance on the man advantage. With the loss, the Thunder are on the brink of elimination entering Game 4.
After being held to just two goals in the first two games of the series, Wichita was able to break through and get four past Jesper Vikman.
Wichita and Tahoe combined for 101 shots on net on Wednesday night. The Thunder had 36 shots while the Knight Monsters finished with 65. Since joining the ECHL, it is the most shots given up by the Thunder in their three appearances in the postseason. The previous high was 41 at Colorado on April 21, 2018.
The Thunder's big four all recorded points on Wednesday. Michal Stinil had a goal and an assist. Kobe Walker, Jay Dickman and Peter Bates each added an assist. Joe Carroll tallied his second goal of the postseason to go along with an assist.
The Knight Monsters are winning the special teams battle through the first three games of the series. Tahoe was 3-for-4 on Wednesday night. The Knight Monsters are 8-for-14 on the power play in the playoffs. good for a 57% clip.
Wichita finally broke through on the man advantage on Wednesday. The Thunder are 1-for-8 on the man advantage so far in the playoffs.
