Pineo Earns PHPA's Heart, Hustle & Desire Award

WICHITA, Kan. (June 25) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, are excited to announce that forward Jason Pineo was selected as a recipient of the 2023-24 Heart, Hustle and Desire Award as voted by PHPA Members at the conclusion of the season. 

The Heart, Hustle, Desire Award is presented to one player from the American Hockey League and ECHL Eastern and Western Conferences who is considered by their peers to be the hardest working player in their respective League’s Conference, demonstrating heart, hustle, and desire each and every day, both on and off the ice.

Pineo, 26, recently completed his rookie season. The Toronto, Ontario native registered 27 points (13g, 14a) in 71 games. He centered the Thunder's third line, finishing with a 54.7% faceoff win rate. 

After spending four years at Niagara University, Pineo joined Wichita at the tail end of the 2023 season. He appeared in 13 games, collecting five points (2g, 3a).
