HEAD TO HEAD - This is the second meeting of the season between the Thunder and the Americans. All-time, Wichita is 21-46-7 against Allen and 10-26-2 against the Americans at home in the series.
TODAY - Wichita plays the back half of a home-and-home with the Allen Americans this evening. This is the first trip this season for the Thunder to the Allen Event Center. Allen won last night's meeting at INTRUST Bank Arena by the final of 5-3. Wichita led 3-2 before the Americans took control in the third. Tonight is the middle contest of a three-in-three for Wichita as they play tomorrow afternoon at home against Utah. Casey Pierro-Zabotel leads the Americans with 14 points (3g, 11a) while Zach Pochiro is second with 12 points. Kyle Platzer leads Wichita with 12 points (5g, 7a) and Zach O'Brien is second with seven points (4g, 3a).
FAMILIAR FACES - Several players played against their former teams last night. Travis Brown and Dyson Stevenson joined Wichita in the offseason after playing last year in Allen. Joel Rumpel spent parts of two seasons in Allen before going to Cincinnati last year. Vincent Arseneau played in Wichita last year, but decided to return to Allen for another go-around. Jeremy Brodeur was in camp with Wichita at the start of the season.
AWARDING - Kyle Platzer claimed two awards this past week. He was named as the ECHL Player of the Week on Thursday while also being named one of four ECHL Plus Performers of the Month. He finished with 11 points (5g, 6a) and was a +8. He has at least a point in all seven games this season.
EASY MAC - Mark MacMillan has been on fire as of late. The University of North Dakota product has four goals in his last two games. He netted Wichita's first goal just 2:30 into the first on Friday night. MacMillan scored twice a week ago in Kansas City and also added one in Tulsa. Overall, he has five tallies on the season.
QUICK START - Wichita has started games on the right note so far this season. The Thunder have outscored their opponents 13-4 in the first and leads the league in first-period goals. Five of those 13 came during an onslaught against the Rapid City Rush on October 22nd.
TWICE AS NICE - Dyson Stevenson and Istvan Sofron recorded a pair of assists on Friday night. Sofron has back-to-back games with two helpers. Stevenson had his first multi-point game of the season and has three assists in his last two games.
MILESTONE - Head Coach Malcolm Cameron claimed his 344th win of his ECHL career on Saturday night, moving him into fifth place all-time in league history. He moves ahead of Larry Courville, who entered the season alone in fifth place with 343.
