Thunder Wins See-Saw Battle Vs. Allen

Wichita, KS (Nov. 11th) - Travis Brown scored with 1:15 left in regulation and Greg Chase potted the only goal in the shootout to help Wichita come back to take a 5-4 victory on Veterans Day at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Brown and Chase led the way offensively with two points apiece and Stuart Skinner remained perfect in shootout situations stopping all three Allen shooters.

Allen got on the board at 4:35 of the first with a goal from Dante Salituro. Mitch Maloney answered less than a minute later as he came out of the penalty box, fired a long shot on C.J. Motte and recorded his first goal as a pro. Pavel Jenys gave Allen a 2-1 lead at 9:40 with his second of the season. At 18:53, Zach Todd tied the game at two with a long shot from the blue line.

Allen took advantage of a five-minute major penalty in the second called on Hayden Hodgson and re-gained the lead. Alexandre Ranger cut through the slot and put back a loose puck for a power play tally to make it 3-2.

Early in the third, Wichita once again tied the game with a power play goal from Steven Iacobellis. Just five seconds into the man advantage, Brown fired a shot from the point and Iacobellis tipped home a backhand to make it 3-3.

At 15:58, Thomas Frazee put home a rebound on the power play and gave the Americans a 4-3 advantage. Wichita tied the game at 18:45 as Skinner went to the bench for the extra attacker. Brown unloaded a shot from the left point that got through traffic and beat Motte. For the second time in the season-series, Wichita and Allen headed to overtime.

Both teams had some great scoring chances during a wild extra session. Wichita had several two-on-one breaks that Motte kept out of the net. Jakob Stukel stepped away on a break late in overtime and was hauled down, but the play continued. The game couldn't be decided in OT and a shootout was needed.

Skinner denied Braylon Shmyr and Salituro while Motte stopped Iacobellis. In the bottom of round two, Chase came down the slot and beat Motte to the glove side. Skinner stopped Spencer Asuchak at the top of round three and Wichita escaped with a 5-4 win.

Skinner improves to 3-0 in shootout situations. PC Labrie and Iacobellis both extended their point streaks to four games. Todd tallied his first goal in a Thunder uniform. Ralph Cuddemi added an assist, was a +3 and had six shots on net.

Wichita went 1-for-3 on the power play. Allen was 2-for-4 on the man advantage.
