Tulsa, OK (Oct. 25th) - Wichita hit the road for the first time this season and claimed a 3-1 victory over Tulsa on Wednesday night at the BOK Center. The Thunder improved to 5-0 on the season with the win.
Lane Bauer, Mark MacMillan and Kyle Platzer provided the Thunder offense and Joel Rumpel improved to 3-0 with a 37-save performance. Wichita killed off all eight Tulsa power plays and added their own power play goal.
Bauer found the net four minutes into the first to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Louick Marcotte drove the puck wide and fed Bauer near the far post and gave Bauer his second of the season.
In the second, MacMillan tipped home a long shot from Travis Brown for a power play tally and a 2-0 lead. He blasted it through traffic and MacMillan caught a piece of it near the net for his second of the season. With time running out, Platzer scored on a breakaway to make it 3-0. Wichita cleared the puck from its own zone and Platzer got to it as he entered the Oilers's zone. Hildebrand couldn't decide whether to come out and play it or not and Platzer made him pay with a beautiful move as he tucked it inside the right post.
Tulsa got one back with 12 minutes left in the contest. Evan Richardson banged home a rebound through a screen to make it 3-1. The Oilers outshot Wichita 16-4, but Rumpel was too strong and Wichita skated to a 3-1 win.
Wichita has power play goals in back-to-back games. Platzer extended his point-streak to five with his fifth goal of the year. Rumpel claimed the win, stopping 37 of 38 shots. Hildebrand took the loss, giving up three goals on 20 shots.
Wichita went 1-for-4 on the power play. Tulsa was 0-for-8 on the man advantage.
The Thunder plays another road contest on Saturday night in Kansas City against the Mavericks starting at 7:05 p.m.
