WEEK IN REVIEW - The Thunder played the Allen Americans three-straight times and began the mini-series on Friday night in Wichita. Making their final appearance of the season at INTRUST Bank Arena, Vincent Arseneau scored the only goal in the second period to help Allen claim a 1-0 lead. On Saturday night, the contest was a complete 180 of the previous evening, with the two teams combining for 11 goals. The Americans pulled away late with four in the third for a 7-4 victory. The two teams finished out the weekend with another one-goal outcome on Sunday afternoon, with Allen winning by the final of 4-3 in a shootout.
HATS OFF - Kale Kerbashian netted his first pro hat trick on Saturday night against his former team. He is just the second Thunder player this season to find the net three times in a game, with Logan Nelson being the other. The Thunder Bay, Ontario native has been terrific since coming over from Rapid City, averaging a point a game (9g, 14a) in the 23 games in a Thunder uniform.
BETWEEN THE PIPES - With both David Shantz and Grant Rollheiser on the shelf, the Thunder added two new goaltenders last week. Sean Bonar dazzled in net on Friday night and had a solid performance on Sunday afternoon despite suffering the shootout loss. He saw 65 shots in 124 minutes, which is good for a goals-against average of 1.94 and a save percentage of .942.
EXTRA TIME - Wichita played another game past 60 minutes on Sunday afternoon. The Thunder appeared in four-straight before the start of the weekend that went into overtime or a shootout. Sunday's shootout loss makes it five of the last seven games that the Thunder have gone into extra time and are in a tie for the league-lead with 17 games decided in OT or a shootout.
ONE MORE TIME - Despite Wichita's record to the Americans, the two teams have played in some competitive games this season. In fact, six of the last nine meetings in the season-series have been decided by one with Sunday's being the first shootout of the year. Wichita is 8-9-6-6 in one-goal games this season.
THREE'S A PLENTY - The Thunder resumes their seven-game road trip on Friday night with a trip to Missouri to face the Mavericks. This will be the second-straight three-in-three with the team playing in three different cities on three different nights. On Saturday, Wichita will head to Quad City for another match-up against the Mallards. The Thunder will finish off the weekend with an afternoon meeting at Evansville on Sunday.
