Wichita, KS (Feb. 2nd) - Jakob Stukel scored 34 seconds into overtime to help Wichita complete a wild comeback over Utah by the final of 5-4 on Saturday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Down 4-1, Wichita scored three in the third period to rally from behind for its first win against Utah this season. Jakob Stukel had three points, Lane Bauer had a goal and an assist and Jeremy Beaudry added two helpers.
Mike Economos netted his fifth of the year to get the scoring started at 8:09 of the first. Similar to Friday night's contest, he scored on the power play to make it 1-0.
In the second, the two teams combined for four goals. Stefan Fournier tied the contest at 10:13 as he beat Kevin Carr from the edge of the right circle. The Grizzlies re-gained the lead just nine seconds later as Ryan Walters recorded his 10th of the season. Economos made it 3-1 at 16:08. Walters connected for his second of the game at 19:09 on a feed from the corner from Caleb Herbert.
Lane Bauer sparked the Thunder comeback with his third of the season at 1:20 of the third. At 16:24, Stukel potted his 10th of the year to make it 4-3. He found a loose puck near the crease as Carr failed to cover it and scored. Less than a minute later, Travis Brown hammered a shot from the blue line that re-directed off someone in front and tied the game. The final horn sounded and overtime was needed.
Stukel scored the game-winner at 34 seconds when he stepped away from a defender near the Utah line, cut to the slot and beat Carr to the far side for his second of the game and a 5-4 victory.
Wichita snapped a two-game slide with the win. Stukel netted his second three-point outing of the season. Beaudry finished with a +4. Taylor Cammarata recorded his first point in a Thunder uniform and was a +3.
The Thunder closes a five-game homestand with a meeting on Tuesday night against the Allen Americans at 7:05 p.m.
