Wichita, KS (Oct. 20th) - The Wichita Thunder, proud member of the ECHL and powered by Toyota, announced today that the team has signed defenseman Donnie Harris and placed him on reserve. To make room, the team has released blueliner Andrew Darrigo.

Harris, 24, has spent the last three seasons as a member of the Evansville IceMen. A native of Ashby, West Virginia, Harris appeared in 145 games for Evansville, recording 20 points (4g, 16a). Known as a stay-at-home defenseman, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound blueliner has also spent time with the Elmira Jackals and the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the SPHL. Prior to turning pro, he won a junior hockey championship with the Omaha Lancers of the USHL in 2007-08.

The Thunder hosts the Missouri Mavericks on Friday night starting at 7:05 p.m. Friday is Poster Schedule Giveaway Night. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will get this great commemorative giveaway, presented by EMC Insurance, Kansas One Call, Hanna Heating and Air CO., Willowbend Golf Club and 360 Wichita.

The ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in four states and has grown into a coast-to-coast league with 28 teams in 20 states and one Canadian province for its 27th season in 2014-15. There have been 541 players who have started their career in the ECHL have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, including 29 who made their NHL debuts in the 2013-14 season. The ECHL had affiliations with 26 of the 30 NHL teams in 2013-14, marking the 17th consecutive season that the league had affiliations with at least 20 teams in the NHL.
