Third Period Pushes Oilers Past Wichita

Tulsa, OK (Nov. 20th) - Wichita fought back from a two-goal hole, but gave up a pair in the third period as Tulsa skated away with a 4-2 win on Tuesday night at the BOK Center.

Dyson Stevenson recorded his sixth of the year and Matt Schmalz notched his second in the losing effort.

Tulsa jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two in the opening frame. Just three minutes in, Ian McNulty got behind a defender and beat Stuart Skinner from the left circle to make it 1-0. Adam Phillips increased it to 2-0 advantage with a power play marker. He fired a one-timer from the blue line at 16:34 for his second of the year. Wichita got one back as Stevenson tipped home a point shot from Keoni Texeira on the power play to cut the lead to 2-1.

In the second, Schmalz powered up the ice and beat Evan Fitzpatrick with a wrist shot from the left circle to tie the game at two.

The Oilers re-took the lead at 3:53 of the third when Steven Kaunisto fired a shot from the left circle that beat Skinner just inside the far post to make it 3-2. At 7:38, Tyler Soy recorded his first of the year as he won a face-off and beat Skinner to the short-side. Wichita had two late power plays and pulled Skinner late for the extra attacker, but time ran out and the Oilers grabbed the victory.

Wichita has six power play goals in the last five contests. Iacobellis grabbed an assist, extending his point-streak to eight games. Stevenson has five points in his last four outings.

Wichita returns home on Wednesday night to host Tulsa for the first time this season in the StoneWolf Casino Cup Series.
