Tulsa, OK (Oct. 27th) - Charlie Sampair scored just 15 seconds into overtime to help Tulsa grab a 2-1 victory over Wichita on Saturday night at the BOK Center.
In his first start of the season for the Thunder, Shane Starrett was outstanding as he stopped 52 shots. PC Labrie netted his second goal of the season in the losing effort for the Thunder.
Tulsa controlled the pace of the first, outshooting Wichita 11-0 at one point. Labrie scored a shorthanded goal at 15:04 of the frame as he got past a falling Oilers defenseman, went in on a break and beat Evan Fitzpatrick to make it 1-0.
In the second, Jared Thomas scored to tie the game during a delayed penalty. He fired a long-range shot from the blue line that got through traffic and beat Starrett to even things up.
Wichita had some good pressure in the third with three-straight shifts with some good scoring opportunities. Both goalies stood tall and overtime was needed.
Early in the third, Chris Forney went coast-to-coast, fired a backhand pass over to Sampair and he slid it just inside the glove-side post to end the contest.
Wichita stopped all six power plays for the Oilers and have killed off 26-straight penalties to start the season. Labrie's shorthanded goal is the first of the season for the season.
The Thunder closes their three-game road trip next Friday night with a trip to Silverstein Eye Centers Arena to face the Kansas City Mavericks.
