Lowe Returns to Air Capital for Fifth Season

Wichita, KS (July 15th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators and powered by Toyota, today announced that forward Ian Lowe has re-signed for the upcoming 2016-17 season. "We are pleased to announce Ian as the first signing with the Thunder for this upcoming season," commented Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "Ian has been a constant through the last couple of years and exemplifies the character traits that we are looking for now and in the future."

Lowe, 29, returns to Wichita for a fifth season and his sixth as a pro. A native of Bradwardine, Manitoba, the 5-foot-9, 175-pound forward was named the team's captain during the 2014-15 season as well as donning the 'C' last year. In 264 career games with the Thunder, Lowe has amassed 186 points (75g, 111a). He sits in ninth place all-time in franchise history for points (186) and seventh place in games played (263). Lowe has reached 34 points or more during each season of his professional career.

"It's an honor to be asked to come back and put on the Thunder logo again," said Lowe. "Wichita has taken my family and myself in over the last few years and I can't wait for the season to start. I am excited to get on the ice in October and get a new era of Wichita Thunder hockey going. I know there is a lot of excitement about the team when I talk to Malcolm Cameron about the upcoming season and getting the affiliation with the Ottawa Senators. I hope to be able to help put Wichita back on the hockey map and give the fans and the organization something they deserve, a winning season and a run at a championship."

Prior to turning pro, Lowe spent a four-year career at Bemidji State University where he ranks 11th on the school's all-time Division I scoring list. He collected 79 points (37g, 42a) in 132 career games for the Beavers. He turned pro in 2011, playing his rookie season for the Idaho Steelheads. Lowe also received a call-up to the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League that year.

The Thunder kicks off their 25th Anniversary season on Saturday, October 15th against the Tulsa Oilers. Season tickets are on sale now. Put down your $50 deposit per seat and pay it off all summer long. Contact a Thunder representative at the office today.
