Allen, TX (Jan. 27th) - Allen jumped out to a three-goal lead and held off a late Thunder rally for a 5-2 win on Saturday night at the Allen Event Center.
Mark MacMillan recorded his 15th of the year and Chad Butcher added his fifth of the season that gave the Thunder a chance late in the game.
Allen scored twice in the first and took a 2-0 lead into the locker room. Dalton Thrower caught a pass across the slot and beat Nick Ellis to make it 1-0. Spencer Asuchak increased the lead to 2-0 as he found a rebound near the net and slid it home for his sixth of the year.
Joel Chouinard made it 3-0 with a power play goal at 3:04 of the second. His shot re-directed off a skate in the slot and got past Ellis. MacMillan cut the lead to 3-1 with 54 seconds to go in the frame as he tipped a pass from Kyle Platzer up over Jeremy Brodeur to make it 3-1.
In the third, Shaquille Merasty made a great play behind the Allen net that led to Butcher burying a rebound and cut the lead to 3-2. Platzer appeared to tie the game several minutes later as he fired a wrist shot from the left circle. The official waived it off and play continued. Allen added two late empty-net goals and finished with a 5-2 victory.
MacMillan ties Ralph Cuddemi for the team-lead in goals and now leads the team in points with 31. Travis Brown has assists in back-to-back games. Platzer has points in back-to-back games.
Wichita went 1-for-2 on the power play. Allen was 1-for-3 on the man advantage.
