Homecoming Spoiled in 5-3 Loss to Colorado

Wichita, KS (Feb. 8th) - Wichita returned home for the first time in six games, but couldn't complete a late rally in a 5-3 loss to Colorado on Wednesday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Jamie Doornbosch finished with two points and Louick Marcotte scored for the third game in a row.

The Eagles jumped out a 2-0 lead, scoring on their first two power play chances. Cody Corbett made it 1-0 at 2:33. Mitch Holmberg increased the lead to 2-0 at 7:24 as he beat Scott Greenham with a wrist shot from the left circle. Wichita was held to just two shots on net in the frame.

In the second, Doornbosch fired a shot from the deep slot that got past Clarke Saunders and cut the lead to one. Marcotte tied the game at 12:33 as he took a rebound across the crease and stuffed it home for his ninth of the season. The first four goals of the game came on the power play.

Colorado re-took the lead 39 seconds later when Jackson Houck got to a loose puck at the left post and banged it home to make it 3-2. Alex Belzile recaptured a two-goal advantage for the Eagles at 14:35 when he fired a one-timer from the right circle past Greenham to make it 4-2. The Eagles appeared to add to their lead a few minutes later, but the referee determined Houck played the puck with a high stick and the goal was waved off.

With 13 minutes left, Ian Lowe poked a puck up the ice to a streaking David Friedmann and he scored on a breakaway to cut the lead to one. The Thunder pulled Greenham with just over a minute left, but Belzile stole a pass at the red line and scored his second of the contest to make it 5-3.

Lowe's assist gives him 199 points in his Thunder career. Doornbosch has points in his last three (1g, 5a). Greenham suffered the loss, stopping 35 of 39 shots. Saunders grabs the win, stopping 18 of 21 shots he faced.

Wichita went 2-for-7 on the power play. Colorado was 2-for-6 on the man advantage.

The Thunder has a day off and then resumes their mini-series against Colorado at 7:05 p.m. on Friday night.
