Scardina, Mitchell Return from San Jose; Korostelev Joins Training Camp

WICHITA, Kan. (Oct. 8) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, announced four separate transactions today.

Forwards Cam Mitchell and Ethan Scardina were released from their Professional Tryout agreements with the Barracuda and returned to the Thunder. Goaltender Yaroslav Korostelev has been added to the training camp roster. 

Additionally, goaltender David Gifford has been released from his tryout agreement.

Scardina, 25, begins his second season as a pro. A native of White Rock, British Columbia, the 6-foot-1, 192-pound forward played his rookie campaign last year in Atlanta, tallying nine points (3g, 6a) in 65 games. 

Mitchell, 25, joined the Thunder this past March. A native of Stony Plain, Alberta, the 5-foot-9, 181-pound forward netted four assists in 17 games. He recorded his first pro point on March 24 against Kansas City.

Korostelev, 21, played in 20 games last year for MHL SKA-1946 St. Petersburg in Russia, going 14-5-0 with a 2.22 goals-against average and .917 save percentage. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound netminder had a career year in 2024-25, going 20-3-0 in 27 starts with a 153 goals-against average and .936 save percentage. He was drafted by the Sharks in round 7 (#194 overall) of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
