Scardina Lifts Thunder Past Knight Monsters in Overtime

WICHITA, Kan. (Oct. 18) – Ethan Scardina scored three minutes into overtime on the power play to lift Wichita past Tahoe, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Michal Stinil and Connor Lockhart led the way for the Thunder with two points apiece while seven others recorded points. Yaroslav Korostelev earned the win, stopping 25 shots in his first start in North America.

Just 1:49 into the game, Jordan Biro netted his first in a Thunder uniform to make it 1-0. He tucked home a rebound near the right post with helpers to Kirby Proctor and Cam Mitchell.

Tahoe scored the next three to take a 3-1 advantage. Cam Hausinger tied it at 4:57. He came around the Thunder net and beat Korostelev with a wraparound that he lifted over the Thunder netminder.

At 19:10, Kooper Gizowski gave the Knight Monsters a 2-1 lead. He hammered a one-timer from the top of the right circle for his second of the weekend.

In the second, Hausinger made it 3-1. Gizowski centered a pass into the slot. Hausinger angled the puck on net with his skate and it slipped past Korostelev. The initial call on the ice was no goal, but the officials reviewed the play. The call on the ice was overturned and Hausinger netted his second of the day.

Wichita answered five minutes later on the man advantage. T.J. Lloyd hammered a shot from the deep slot past Pavel Moysevich and made it 3-2.

Stinil tied the game at 17:20 with his first of the year. Riley Bodnarchuk fed a pass to the right point for Pavel McKenzie. He unloaded a shot towards the net that Stinil popped over Moysevich to even the contest.

After a scoreless third, the game headed into overtime.

Scardina tallied the game-winner on the man advantage. Biro drew a tripping penalty to Gizowski at 2:30.

Lockhart put a shot on net from nearly the same spot that Lloyd scored from in the second. Scardina tipped it through Moysevich to give the Thunder the win.

Wichita came back for the second night in a row. The Thunder outshot the Knight Monsters 37-28.

Stinil had a goal and an assist, putting him just one point shy of 300 for his ECHL career. Lockhart had two helpers. Lloyd and Biro had their first markers of the season. McKenzie and Bodnarchuk each recorded their first points as professionals.

Wichita went 2-for-5 on the power play, scoring two manpower goals in each of the first two games. Tahoe went 1-for-6 on the man advantage.

The Thunder remains at home on Friday night when longtime rival, Tulsa comes to town. Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
