Thunder Signs Rookie Forward Nicholas Niemo

WICHITA, Kan. (Sept. 15) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, announced today the signing of forward Nicholas Niemo for the 2026-27 season.

"Nicholas is a skilled player who brings elite skating and an ability to score," commented Head Coach Travis Clayton. "We’re looking for him to add offensive production to our group, and we’re excited to welcome Nicholas."

Niemo, 25, recently turned pro after a four-year college career. The Middlebury, Vermont native was signed by the Utah Grizzlies this past March. He appeared in 15 games, tallying one goal and two helpers for three points. Niemo recorded his first professional goal against the Thunder on April 1 while also adding an assist.

Prior to signing with the Grizzlies, he began his collegiate career at Bentley University. As a freshman in 2022-23, Niemo piled up 22 points (8g, 14a) in 32 games and was named to the AHA All-Rookie Team.

He transferred to the University of Maine for two seasons before finishing up at Niagara University. Overall, the 5-foot-10, 181-pound forward finished with 41 points (16g, 25a) in 96 career NCAA games.
