Gavin Best Returns to Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (August 13) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, announced today that forward Gavin Best has re-signed for the 2026-27 season.

"We’re excited to welcome Gavin back," commented Head Coach Travis Clayton. "He stepped in late last season and made an instant contribution on offense with his speed and goal-scoring touch. He showed tremendous potential in a short window, and we expect him to play a key role in our offensive play this season."

Best, 24, came to the Thunder this past March and showed some flashes in his short time as a pro. A native of Richfield, Minnesota, the 6-foot-2, 194-forward tallied 11 points (5g, 6a) in 17 games.

He turned pro after playing a four-year collegiate career split between Michigan State and Ferris State University. Best was named captain for the Bulldogs during his senior campaign and finished with a career-best 26 points (12g, 14a). Overall, he tallied 45 points (22g, 23a) in 85 games.

Best had a solid junior career, playing two seasons for the North American Hockey League's Minnesota Magicians. He recorded 54 points (20g, 34a) in 59 games in 2021-22 and was also an alternate captain.
