Thunder Announces Two Separate Transactions; Carriere Reassigned to Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (Feb. 27) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, announced today two separate transactions involving their goaltending position.

The Sharks have reassigned netminder Gabriel Carriere to Wichita. Goaltender Matt Davis has been recalled by the Barracuda.

Carriere, 24, has appeared in 24 AHL games so far this season. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder is 12-8-3 to go along with a 2.73 goals-against average, and a .894 save percentage. Carriere went seven games without a regulation loss, going 5-0-1-1 during November, posting a 2.10 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage

The Ottawa native began his professional career in the Air Capitol, notching a 14-9-2 record in 2024-25, 2.60 GAA, and .922 save percentage in 25 games for the Thunder before being recalled to San Jose in February.

Prior to turning pro, he played four seasons with the University of Vermont. During his senior campaign, Carriere went 13-18-3 in 33 games with a 2.79 goals-against average and .906 save percentage.

Carriere was named as a Hobey Baker Award Nominee as the NCAA's Top Collegiate Player. Over his four-year career with the Catamounts, Carriere went 28-50-8 with a 2.75 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in 89 games.

Davis, 24, has been solid for Wichita since returning from injury in early February. The Calgary, Alberta native backstopped the Thunder to points in four of his five starts.

During that span, he has given up just eight goals on 140 shots (1.46 GAA, .946 SV%). That run raised his save percentage to an ECHL-leading .932. Davis is heading to the AHL for the third time this season.

Wichita stays in Boise and will play Idaho for the final time this season on Saturday night. Faceoff is set for 8:10 p.m. CST.
