Thunder Acquires Melee from Fort Wayne; Outen Dealt to KZoo

WICHITA, Kan. (Feb. 17) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, announced today two separate transactions that involve trades.

Wichita acquired forward Jonathan Melee from Fort Wayne for future considerations. The Thunder dealt netminder Tyriq Outen to Kalamazoo for futures as well.

Melee, 22, made his pro debut for the Komets on January 23 against Indy. A native of Fredericton, New Brunswick, the 6-foot, 180-pound forward began the year at the University of Ottawa (USports) before skating in three contests with Fort Wayne.

Prior to turning pro, he played the last four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, primarily with the Peterborough Petes. In 234 career games, Melee compiled 127 points (54g, 73a) and 128 penalty minutes. He also won an OHL Championship in 2023.

Wichita begins a 12-game road trip at 7:05 on Wednesday night at Iowa. This is the longest consecutive set of road games for the Thunder in team history.
