WICHITA, Kan. (Feb. 5) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, announced today that goaltender Matt Davis has been loaned to the Thunder.

Davis, 24, began his rookie season as a workhorse for Wichita, starting 16 of the first 24 games and playing the most minutes in the league (961).

He posted an impressive 2.62 goals-against average and .928 save percentage, good for sixth among qualified goaltenders at the time. He turned aside a league high 580 shots before being recalled back before Christmas.

Davis had a decorated collegiate career at the University of Denver. The 6-foot-1, 194-pound netminder led the Pioneers to two NCAA championships (2021-22 and 2023 -24). Davis went 63-17-4 over his four-year collegiate career with a 2.13 goals-against average and .921 save percentage.

In 2023-24, the Calgary, Alberta, native capped a NCAA Tournament MVP run with a 35-save, 2-0 shutout in the championship game over Boston College. Last season, Davis helped the Pioneers to their second consecutive Frozen Four appearance, claiming NCHC All-Tournament Team and Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in the process.
