ALLEN, TX (Feb. 11) – Matt Davis stopped 33 shots, Peter Bates tallied two points and Wichita held off a late push from Allen on Wednesday night, claiming a 2-1 win at Credit Union of Texas Event Center.
Kyle Crnkovic recorded his team-leading 22nd goal of the year. Noah Beck, Kirby Proctor and Michal Stinil also had helpers in the victory.
The Thunder jumped out to a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game. Wichita started a breakout through the neutral zone. Bates came in down the right wing, fed a backhand into the slot and Crnkovic beat Jackson Parsons from near the blue paint.
Allen tied the contest at 4:34. Harrison Blaisdell walked off the goal line on his backhand and beat Davis to the glove side for his 14th of the year.
Late in the second, Wichita was awarded the first power play of the night when Ty Prefontaine was sent off for a high stick. The Thunder won a faceoff to the left of Parsons. Beck found Bates in the slot, and he redirected it into the net for his 15th of the year to make it 2-1.
The Americans tilted the ice in the third. The Thunder only had two shots in the frame while giving up 18 on Davis.
Parsons was listed for the extra attacker in the final two minutes, but Wichita held on and claimed the victory.
Wichita earned its first win in the season-series against Allen and is seven points back of the Americans in the Mountain Division for fourth place.
Crnkovic has goals in back-to-back games and points in four straight. Bates has goals in back-to-back outings and 40 points in four-straight seasons. Beck and Stinil each have three assists in their last two games. Proctor has helpers in two-straight.
Wichita went 1-for-1 on the man advantage, netting its first power play tally at Credit Union of Texas Event Center in the season-series. Allen was unsuccessful on its only chance of the game.
The Thunder returns home on Friday to begin a three-in-three against Idaho. Faceoff is set for 7 :05 p.m.
