Thunder Dominates Grizzles on Saturday Night

WICHITA, Kan. (Jan. 3) – Wichita closed a three-game series against Utah on Saturday night, earning a dominating 6-1 victory at INTRUST Bank Arena.

The line of Kyle Jeffers, Ryan Finnegan and Spencer Blackwell combined for eight points and finished a +9. Roddy Ross claimed the win, stopping 41 shots.

Peter Bates opened the scoring 5:38 into the first period. He made a terrific move across the slot to get past Dylan Wells and slipped it into the net for his ninth of the year.

At 14:58, Jeffers connected for his fifth of the season to make it 2-0. Finnegan made a great play up the ice, fed a pass across to the left circle and Jeffers fired home a one-timer. The play was reviewed to make sure it went in the net and was deemed a good goal.

John Gormley made it 3-0 at 18:42. He took a shot from the right boards that slipped under the arm of Wells for his second of the season.

Early in the second, Kyle Crnkovic made it 3-0 on the power play. Jay Dickman took a shot from the left boards. Crnkovic somehow got his stick on the puck and redirected it past Wells for his 15th of the campaign.

Spencer Blackwell increased the lead to 4-0 at 10:32. He stepped through the slot around a defender and unloaded a shot through Wells.

Colby Enns snapped the shutout bid for the Grizzlies at 14:36. Wichita was about to receive a penalty during a delayed call. Wells went to the bench for the extra attacker. Enns collected a pass across the slot from Aiden Hanson-Bukata and found a wide-open net.

Donavan Houle ended the scoring at 16:30 of the third period. He hammered home a one-timer in transition for his ninth of the season to make it 6-1.

Six different players found the back of the net. The Thunder closed the weekend with 13 goals in its last two games.
