WICHITA, Kan. (Dec. 31) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, announced today the signing of goaltender Tyriq Outen (OUT-in).
Outen, 25, comes to the Air Capital from the SPHL's Knoxville Ice Bears. He spent training camp in Wichita before signing with former Thunder Assistant Coach John Gurskis's team.
The Tampa, Florida native won his professional debut on October 25, making 29 saves in the Ice Bears’ 4-3 victory over Roanoke. Overall, he's compiled solid 2.27 goals-against average and .914 save percentage in five appearances.
Prior to turning pro, Outen spent one year each with Stevenson University (NCAA DIII) and Long Island University (NCAA). In 26 games with Stevenson in 2023-24, Outen won a school-record 19 games with a 1.82 GAA and four shutouts.
He transferred to Long Island University in 2024-25 and led the Sharks in goals-against average (1.93), save percentage (.920), and shutouts (2) in 15 games to finish his collegiate career.
