Defenseman Kyle Masters Reassigned to Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (Oct. 20) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, announced today that defenseman Kyle Masters has been reassigned to the Thunder from the Barracuda.

In a separate move, goaltender Tyriq Outen has been released. 

Masters, 22, is in his third full season as a pro. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, the 6-foot, 180-pound defenseman has spent time in each of the last two seasons with the AHL's Iowa Wild and the ECHL's Iowa Heartlanders. 

He's played in 35 AHL games with Iowa, registering six points (1g, 5a). In 59 ECHL games with the Heartlanders, Masters has totaled 32 points (nine goals, 23 assists). 

The San Jose Sharks acquired Masters in a trade from the Iowa Wild on October 18. He was selected in the fourth round (#118 overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft by Minnesota. 

Prior to turning pro, Masters spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League between Red Deer and Kamloops. In 2022-23, he helped the Blazers to the Memorial Cup and was selected to the Second All-Star Team. Masters finished with 92 points (16g, 76a) in 175 career junior games.
