Thunder Signs Defenseman Patrick Kyte

WICHITA, Kan. (Sept. 25) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, announced today that defensemen Patrick Kyte has been signed ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. 

The 26-year-old comes to Wichita after a year with the EIHL's Fife Flyers. Kyte led all Fife defensemen with four goals in 41 contests, along with six assists for 10 points.

Prior to his time overseas, Kyte played four seasons collegiately in Canada's USports. In 2023-24, the senior tallied seven assists enroute to the University of New Brunswick's University Cup appearance.

He spent his first two collegiate seasons with St. Francis Xavier University, racking up 35 points (8g, 27a) in 43 games. Kyte was teammates with current Thunder forward Declan Smith.

Additionally, the Pembroke, ON, native played a solid three-year career with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Halifax and Chicoutimi, posting 77 points (20g, 57a) in 169 career games. Kyte also recorded an assist in Halifax's run to the 2019 Memorial Cup Final, where the Mooseheads fell 4-2 to Rouyn-Noranda on home ice.
