STATELINE, NV (April 9) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, begins a three-game road trip to close the regular season starting tonight at 9 p.m. against Tahoe.
Tonight is the first-ever visit for the Thunder to Tahoe Blue Event Center. This is the fourth-ever meeting of the season between the Thunder and the Knight Monsters. All-time, Wichita is 2-1-0 against Tahoe.
The Thunder are coming off a 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon against Allen. The Knight Monsters earned a 7-0 win over Utah on Saturday night. Wichita is tied for third place with 83 points. Tahoe is in second in the Mountain Division with 87 points. Seeds two through five are separated by five points.
Wichita is tied for third with Idaho in the Mountain Division playoff race. Both teams have 83 points and a .601 winning percentage. Tulsa is in fifth place with 82 points. All three teams have three games remaining this week to determine the final two playoff spots.
The Thunder and the Knight Monsters faced each other back in February at INTRUST Bank Arena. In the first-ever series between the two teams, Wichita took two out of three. The two teams combined for 32 goals in three games. The Thunder won on February 15 by a 9-7 final, which was the highest scoring game of the season between the Thunder and their opponent.
Troy Loggins leads the Knight Monsters with five goals in three games against the Thunder. Former Thunder forward Logan Nelson had five points (1g, 4a) in three outings against his old team.
Joe Carroll leads the way for Wichita with six points (2g, 4a) in three outings against Tahoe. Luke Grainger has five points (3g, 2a) back in February against the Knight Monsters.
