INDEPENDENCE, MO (Oct. 24) – Wichita closed a three-game series against Kansas City on Tuesday night, losing 3-2 on the road at Cable Dahmer Arena.

Roman Kinal and Ryan Finnegan tallied their first professional goals in the losing effort.

At 15:37 of the first, Jake McLaughlin opened the scoring. He fired a shot over the glove of Beck Warm for his first of the season to make it 1-0.

Less than two minutes later, Jake Wahlin won a board-battle, fed a pass to Kinal at the point. He unloaded a shot off the back crossbar and tied the game at one.

In the second, Cole Coskey recorded back-to-back goals in less than two minutes to take a 3-1 lead. He made it 2-1 at 8:15 on the power play, catching a pass from Nolan Walker at the right circle and beat Warm for his third of the season. Coskey made it 3-1 at 10:23 as he drove the net and put home a pass from Kyle Jackson.

Finnegan cleaned up a rebound at 15:53 after Kelly Bent got behind a Mavericks defenseman and cut the lead to 3-2.

Wichita outshot Kansas City in the third period, 11-6, but couldn't get the game tied in the final 20 minutes. The Thunder were whistled for two late penalties and couldn't get the puck in the offensive zone to give themselves a chance with the extra attacker. The Mavericks held on for the 3-2 win.

Bent, Wahlin and Peter Bates each collected assists. Aaron Miller led the way in the shot department, finishing with six shots on goal.

Wichita returns home on Friday night to start a three-game homestand. The Cincinnati Cyclones make their first appearance at INTRUST Bank Arena on Friday since the 2016-17 season. The Thunder closes their busy week with Iowa on Saturday and Sunday.
