WICHITA, Kan. (Dec. 3) – The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, AHL's San Jose Barracuda and powered by Toyota, returns home tonight at 7:05 p.m. to continue a three-in-three this weekend against Kansas City.
Last night, the Mavericks took a 2-0 lead in the first period, but failed to hold on and Wichita climbed back for a 3-2 overtime victory.
With the win, the Thunder moved two points ahead of Kansas City in the standings with 20 points and alone in second place. The Mavericks are tied for third place with Rapid City with 18 points.
Both teams are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games coming into tonight. Wichita improved to 2-0-1 against Kansas City in the season-series. All-time, Wichita is 83-58-22 against Kansas City and 43-27-7 at home against the Mavericks.
Stefan Fournier recorded his seventh goal of the season last night. The veteran forward needs four goals to reach 100 ECHL markers and needs eight assists to reach 100 for his career.
Brayden Watts scored the game-winner in overtime last night. Watts has scored the last two overtime winners for the Thunder. He has points in nine-straight games, recording 14 points (7g, 7a) .
Connor Walters tallied his first multi-point game last night. He assisted on both of Brayden Watts’ goals. Walters has four assists in eight games this season.
Wichita improved to 5-2 in games decided in overtime this year with a 3-2 win against Kansas City last night. The Thunder are now 1-1 in overtime games against the Mavericks.
The Thunder outshot Kansas City last night 30-29. It was just the second time this season that the Thunder have outshot their opponent. Wichita is 1-1-0 when firing more shots than the other team and 7-5-2 when being outshot by its opponent.
Wichita earned its fourth come-from-behind win last night when trailing by a 2-0 deficit. Two of those wins have come against Kansas City.
