Wichita, KS (Jan. 20th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, begins the second half of the season tonight against the Colorado Eagles.
Tonight is the first trip of the year for the Eagles to INTRUST Bank Arena. Wichita lost its only meeting against Colorado on December 13th by the final of 4-3. The Eagles will make two more trips to the Air Capital in February before the two teams close out the regular season in Fort Collins at the beginning of April.
Wichita is looking to snap a two-game losing skid with both losses coming last weekend at home against Utah. The Thunder are looking to snap a four-game home losing streak tonight as well. Colorado comes in on the opposite end of the spectrum, having won eight-straight and haven't suffered a regulation loss in 12 consecutive contests.
Matt Garbowsky (11g, 27a) and Matt Register (8g, 30a) lead the Eagles with 38 points. Mark MacMillan leads the Thunder with 28 points (14g, 14a).
In net, Joe Cannata has won each of his last eight consecutive starts in net and was named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week last week. Shane Starrett is 12-4-3 in 21 appearances for the Thunder with a goals-against average of 2.69 and save percentage of .921. He's coming off an impressive performance earlier this week at the All-Star Classic, where he won the Rapid Fire contest and backstopped the Mountain Division to the All-Star 3-on-3 title.
The Thunder hits the road next weekend with a pair of games in Texas against the Allen Americans.
