LAST WEEK - The Thunder began their first three-in-three on Friday night against the Allen Americans. Wichita led 3-2 heading into the third period, but the Americans scored three times and won the game 5-3. The two teams headed to Allen on Saturday night and the Thunder won the rematch by the final of 3-1. To close out the weekend, Wichita returned home and won an overtime contest against Utah by the final of 5-4.
IMPACT - Greg Chase was assigned to the Thunder from the American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors this past week and made an immediate impact. He had assists in both games against Allen and then recorded a pair of goals on Sunday, including the overtime winner. A native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Chase has four points (2g, 2a) in three games for the Thunder.
EASY MAC - Mark MacMillan finished the week with three points, recording a goal on Friday and two helpers on Sunday. He has three multi-point outings so far this season and eight points (5g, 3a) in nine games.
OIL SPILL - Kyle Platzer recorded assists in each game over the weekend to extend his point-streak to nine games. He has assists in four straight (5a) and leads the team in scoring with 14 points.
QUICK START - Wichita has started games on the right note so far this season. The Thunder have outscored their opponents 15-5 in the first and leads the league in first-period goals. The Thunder have also outscored their opponents 13-6 in the second period this year.
SPECIAL - Wichita has killed off 24 of the last 25 power play attempts from its opponent and moved to ninth in the league on the penalty kill (86.8%). The Thunder scored their second shorthanded goal of the season on Sunday and also added a power play tally. Wichita's power play currently sits at 15.6%, good for 15th in the league.
SOFIE - Istvan Sofron has points in three straight games (1g, 4a) and recorded his first of the season on Sunday off a face-off win from Travis Ewanyk.
