Thunder Weekly - November 16th Edition

Wichita, KS (Nov. 16th) - Wichita played four games this past week to end a tough stretch of seven games in nine days. Take a look back at the week that was in this edition of Thunder Weekly, presented by Wichita Brewing Company:

LAST WEEK'S GAMES -

Tuesday, November 10th Wichita at Allen, 5-2 L-Wichita scored two shorthanded goals, but the Americans converted on two power play chances to beat the Thunder 5-2 on Tuesday night.

Wednesday, November 11th Tulsa at Wichita, 2-1 W (SO) -Anthony Deluca scored the game-winner in the fourth round of the shootout to knock off Tulsa in the StoneWolf Casino Cup Series.

Friday, November 13th Missouri at Wichita, 7-2 L -The Mavericks scored five first-period goals and didn't look back en route to a 7-2 win against the Thunder on Friday.

Saturday, November 14th Missouri at Wichita, 2-1 L (SO)-Andrew Courtney scored the lone goal in the shootout and Wichita fell on Saturday night by the final of 3-2.

END OF THE ROAD - Last week, Wichita finished its rough stretch of seven games in a nine days. The Thunder will have a similar stretch coming up as they play six games in nine days from December 26th to January 3rd.

SAKARIS STRONG - Peter Sakaris continues to be one of the Thunder's hottest scorers this season. The Candiac, PQ native tallied three points last week, including two assists in Saturday's contest against Missouri. It was his third multi-point game of the season.

REEMER - Dalton Reum was not known for his offensive prowess coming into the season, but has provided that recently. The third year defenseman scored three points (1g, 2a) in four games this past week. Reum set a new career-high in goals with two, firing a rocket past Parker Milner on Saturday. Reum also recorded his first multi-point outing of his career on Saturday.

PICK A SIDE - Joey Sides has assists in his last three games. The Sun Valley, Idaho native is still looking for his first goal in a Thunder uniform. His career-high in assists came during the 2010-11 campaign with the Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League when he recorded 34.

SHOOUTOUT SUCCESS - Wichita appeared in two shootouts this past week and three so far this season. The Thunder won their first two, but lost for the first time in a shootout situation on Saturday night. Wichita is 4-of-13 in shootout attempts, and has only allowed three goals on 13 attempts.

PENALTY BUSTED - Wichita has been strong on the penalty kill at home so far this season, operating at a rate of 91.4% . The Thunder ranks 12th in the league on the penalty kill, busting 85.3% of the opportunities against. Of the 68 chances that opponents have had on the power play, the Thunder have only allowed 10 goals.

SCORING FIRST - Scoring first has been an important stat so far this season. Wichita is 3-1-0-1 when scoring first. While the ECHL as a whole is 129-33-8-5 in 175 games so far this season in which a team has notched the first goal. The Thunder scored first for the first time in seven games on Saturday night.

THUNDERBOLTS...Anthony Deluca leads the team in shots with 35...The Thunder acquired forward Logan Nelson in a trade with Quad City earlier this week... Wichita is 3-0-0-1 when leading after two...Wichita is 3-3-0-0 when tied after one...Wichita is 4-3-0-1 in one goal games...

Wichita returns home on Friday night as the Allen Americans make their first trip to INTRUST Bank Arena this season. The team is helping the cause by raising money for Men's Health Awareness and growing moustaches. Fans are encouraged to donate to the Movember Foundation by clicking here.

The Thunder face-off against the Missouri Mavericks on Saturday night, which is Teddy Bear Toss Night. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to toss onto the ice after the Thunder score their first goal of the night. All donations will be collected and distributed to several different places around the city including hospitals, charities and places where a young child can receive a gift for the holidays.
