Thunder Sweeps Weekend Set with Indy

Wichita, KS (Oct. 14th) - Mark MacMillan scored with 33 seconds left in overtime to give Wichita a 4-3 victory on Saturday night over Indy at INTRUST Bank Arena.

The two teams traded goals throughout the night before MacMillan collected his first goal of the season and a weekend sweep of the Fuel.

Nick Bligh gave the visitors the lead five minutes into the game after the Fuel won a face-off in their own end. Wichita answered just 23 seconds later when Marc-Olivier Crevier-Morin blasted a wrist shot from the top of the right circle past Collin Delia.

Tommy Olczyk re-gained the lead for Indy at 14:51 of the second with a power play goal. At 16:36, Lane Bauer notched his first goal as a pro and tied the contest at two. He came down on a three-on-one chance and had his pass ricochet off the stick of Garrett Clarke and in the net.

In the third, Wichita appeared to take a 3-2 advantage when a Jamie Doornbosch shot from the blueline found its way past Delia. The official immediately waived it off, calling incidental contact with the goalie. Travis Ewanyk netted his second of the weekend a few minutes later as he buried a wrist shot on a breakaway to give the Thunder their first lead of the game. Troy Vance tied it at three four minutes later and the game headed to overtime.

The Thunder outshot the Fuel 2-1 in the extra period. MacMillan scored the game-winner after intercepting an outlet pass in the neutral zone. He skated down the left wing, went behind the net and wrapped it just inside the post before Delia could react and gave Wichita a 4-3 win.

MacMillan led the way with two points (1g, 1a) and was named the first star. Crevier-Morin and Bauer both potted their first professional goals. Shane Starrett claimed his first pro win in his first pro start, stopping 31 of 34 shots he faced. Delia suffered the overtime loss, stopping 32 of 36 shots.

WIchita went 0-for-5 on the power play. Indy was 1-for-8 on the man advantage.
