Wichita, KS (Sept. 5th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, announced today the signing of forward Mark MacMillan.
"I'm really excited to join Wichita and play for the Thunder," stated MacMillan. "Coach and I have known each other for a while, having both been a part of the Okanagan Hockey Academy. I'm excited for the opportunity. My offseason has been awesome this year. I've been spending most my time in my hometown of Penticton, training and skating here in town. I can't wait to get going."
MacMillan, 25, is a former fourth round pick (#113) of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. A native of Penticton, British Columbia, the 6-foot, 185-pounder has played the last two seasons with the American Hockey League's St. John's IceCaps. He tallied 30 points (12g, 18a) in 120 games with the IceCaps. He also had five points (2g, 3a) in six games with the Brampton Beast during the 2015-16 campaign.
"We're very excited to add Mark to our group this season," commented Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "I've had the pleasure of being on the ice with him in the past. I know the speed and skill set he brings. He's been a winner and with his experience in the AHL, I expect him to be a top player for us."
Prior to turning pro, MacMillan played four years at the University of North Dakota and served as an alternate captain during his senior campaign. He was named Defensive Forward of the Year in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference in 2014-15 and was leading the conference with a career-high 16 goals when he suffered an injury in February. MacMillan finished his college career with 46 goals and 53 assists in 151 games.
He becomes the 18th player announced this offseason and joins Matt DeBlouw, Dyson Stevenson, Jeremy Beaudry, Travis Ewanyk, Etienne Boutet, Justin Hamonic, Istvan Sofron, Louick Marcotte, Marc-Olivier Crevier-Morin, Justin Crandall, Jamie Doornbosch, Matt Tipoff, Gerrad Grant, Shaquille Merasty, Alex Miner-Barron, Joel Rumpel and Guillaume Lepine on the roster.
The 26th season of Thunder hockey kicks off on Friday, October 13th against the Indy Fuel.
