Rapid City, SD (Dec. 22nd) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, concludes a two-game set tonight in the Black Hills against the Rapid City Rush.
The Rush won last night's contest by the final of 4-3 in a shootout. The win vaulted the Rush into a second-place tie with the Idaho Steelheads in the Mountain Division with 33 points. The Thunder earned a point and sits two back of Tulsa for fifth place in the division.
The Thunder are in the midst of a heavy divisional schedule and will see Kansas City and Tulsa after the Christmas break. In fact, the Thunder plays their next 22 games against division rivals before a meeting with Indy on February 16th.
Wichita and Rapid City combined for three power plays and just six penalty minutes last night. The Thunder's streak of scoring on the power play was snapped at nine-straight. The Thunder have 26 power play goals in their last 21 games (26-for-80 = 32.5%) and have nine power play goals in their last 12 games.
Andrew Radjenovic leads the Rush with 29 points 15g, 14a) while Pierre-Luc Mercier is second with 18 (5g, 13a). Steven Iacobellis leads the Thunder with 32 points (10g, 22a). PC Labrie and Dyson Stevenson each have 25 points.
