Thunder Jump Out Early, Hold off Fort Wayne Late

Wichita, KS (Nov. 13th) - Wichita finished off its first three-in-three of the season on Sunday afternoon, knocking off Fort Wayne by the final of 5-3 at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Wichita jumped out to a five-goal lead, fueled by Alexis Loiseau and Logan Nelson, who each had a pair of goals. Scott Greenham stood tall in net, grabbing his fourth win of the year.

Loiseau scored the only goal of the first period, making a strong move to the net on a two-on-one and beat Eric Hartzell to make it 1-0.

In the second, Wichita exploded for four goals on just seven shots. 31 seconds into the frame, Nelson beat Hartzell for his first of the season on the power play and a 2-0 lead. The Thunder penalty kill continued to stifle their opponents and netted another shorthanded goal. Loiseau stripped the puck at the Thunder line, skated in alone and beat Hartzell through the legs for his second of the contest and a 3-0 advantage.

Three minutes later, Blake Tatchell got into the act, unloading a one-timer past Hartzell from the right circle off the rush and a 4-0 lead. At that point, the Komets made a change in net and Keegan Asmundson took over. The first shot he faced came 18 seconds later from Nelson, who fired a shot past him on a breakaway to make it 5-0. The Komets got on the board at 14:21 as David Friedmann beat Greenham for his fourth of the year.

Jamie Schaafsma made it 5-2 early in the third and helped get Fort Wayne back into the game. Shawn Szydlowski tallied his sixth of the year and cut the lead to 5-3. Greenham held the fort down the stretch and the Thunder grabbed the victory.

Wichita set a new high for goals scored in a period with four in the second. Loiseau finishes out the weekend with his second three-point game (2g, 1a) and six points in three games (4g, 2a). Tatchell recorded his first goal as a pro. Nick Trecapelli had a pair of assists and points in his last three (2g, 3a).

Greenham improves to 4-1-0-0, stopping 43 of 46 shots. Hartzell takes the loss, stopping 12 of 16 shots he faced.

Wichita went 1-for-4 on the power play and has a power play goal in five-straight games. Fort Wayne went 0-for-6 on the man advantage.

The Thunder have the week off and will host the Alaska Aces for three-straight starting on Friday, November 18th at 7:05 p.m.
