Wichita, KS (August 28th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, announced today the signing of rookie forward Colton Sparrow for the 2018-19 season.
"Colton is a player that doesn't quit," stated Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "His energy and work ethic are contagious and that is a vital ingredient to success in the ECHL. His past coaches spoke highly about him and people I know in the hockey community raved about him. We're excited to have Colton join our team."
Sparrow, 25, turns pro after spending the last four years playing at the collegiate level. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound forward began his career at the University of Alaska (NCAA) in 2014-15 before transferring to the University of Regina (USports). He registered 15 points (6g, 9a) in 57 games for the Nanooks and 22 points (8g, 14a) in 52 games for the Cougars.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the Thunder this season," stated Sparrow. "It's my first taste of pro hockey and I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity to be a part of this organization."
Prior to turning pro, the Kelowna, British Columbia native played a four-year career for the British Columbia Hockey League's Vernon Vipers. He helped the Vipers claim the RBC Title and won the Doyle Cup in 2010-11. He was named as the RBC Cup Top Forward and Top Scorer in 2013-14, registering seven points (5g, 2a) in five games. Overall, he piled up 87 points (32g, 55a) in 188 games for the Vipers.
