Wichita, KS (Dec. 11th) - Vincent Arseneau scored twice and Louick Marcotte added two points as Wichita was able to hold off a late Missouri rally on Sunday afternoon for a 4-3 victory at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Jamie Doornbosch recorded his first goal of his pro career while Ryan Tesink collected two assists in the winning effort.
The Thunder got on the board just 49 seconds into the game as Marcotte found a loose puck at the side of the net and beat Josh Robinson to make it 1-0. Arseneau made it 2-0 with a shorthanded goal at the 12-minute mark as he collected a pass up the left side and fired home a wrist shot. With five minutes to go in the frame, Doornbosch got into the act as he crashed the net and put home a rebound to make it 3-0.
Missouri got on the board late with a power play goal from Shawn Pauly and cut the lead to 3-1.
In the second, Arseneau caught a long pass from Brandon Carlson and buried a wrist shot to the blocker side of Robinson to make it 4-1.
Lucas Lofquist started the Mavericks' comeback with his seventh of the season at 7:25 of the third. It was the second power play goal of the game for Missouri. Dane Fox made it 4-3 at 8:46 with a wrist shot over the glove-side shoulder of Scott Greenham. Missouri pulled Robinson down the stretch, but the Thunder held on for the victory.
Wichita scored its seventh shorthanded goal of the season and third of the weekend. The Thunder improve to 5-0-0-0 when recording a shorthanded tally. Arseneau has five points in his last two games (3g, 2a). Marcotte added a goal and has four goals in his last four games. Greenham claimed the win, stopping 41 of 44 shots. Robinson takes the loss, stopping 26 of 30 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-3 on the power play. Missouri was 2-for-6 on the man advantage.
The Thunder will travel to Allen next Friday night for the first meeting of the season in the Dallas Metroplex.
