Independence, MO (Nov. 22nd) - Shawn Pauly scored two minutes into overtime to help Kansas City knock off Wichita by the final of 3-2 on Wednesday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
The two teams traded goals in the second period and needed overtime for the second-straight game in the season-series.
Dan Correale potted his second of the year early in the second period on a two-on-one rush to give Kansas City a 1-0 lead. Travis Ewanyk tipped home a shot from the point five minutes later that tied the contest at one. With six minutes to go in the frame, Mike McMurtry stole the puck at the Thunder line and beat Shane Starrett to re-gain the lead for the Mavericks. Dyson Stevenson tied it at two with a shorthanded goal at 18:08.
The third period was relatively even with the Mavericks firing nine shots on net and the Thunder putting eight onto Tyler Parsons.
In overtime, Pauly beat a defenseman out of the corner and slid it through Starrett for the game-winner.
Ewanyk collected his sixth of the season. Iacobellis added an assist, giving him three points in two games. Lane Bauer also added an assist, giving him four points in his last two outings. Starrett suffered his second overtime loss, stopping 34 of 37 shots. Parsons took the win, stopping 28 of 30 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-2 on the power play. Kansas City went was 0-for-5 on the man advantage.
The Thunder finishes their two-game road swing on Black Friday against the Quad City Mallards at 7:05 p.m.
