Thunder Announce 2014-15 Schedule

Wichita, KS (August 27th) - The Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League, powered by Toyota, announced today their 2014-15 regular season schedule, which will feature a stand-alone home opener on Saturday, October 25th against the defending champion Allen Americans.

The Thunder home schedule will feature 27 weekend games, including seven games on a Friday, 13 games on a Saturday and seven games on a Sunday. Wichita will also have five Wednesday night games including the night before Thanksgiving. The only Tuesday night contest of the season will be part of a home-and-home with Missouri on December 30th and play New Year's Eve at the Independence Events Center. Wichita will not play a road game on a Saturday until January 17th at Allen. The Thunder will also play six ‘three-in-three' nights this season, which is lower from a year ago.

“We are excited about how the schedule looks for us this year,” commented GM Joel Lomurno. “Fans will have a chance to see a majority of our games on weekends and against our biggest opponents. This is also the most balanced schedule we have had in years and should make for a great season.”

Wichita will look to re-gain form on home-ice early in the season, playing 10 of the first 15 games at INTRUST Bank Arena. The Thunder led the league in wins two seasons ago with 25. Wichita will head north of the border for two three-game road trips this season. The first one takes place at the beginning of December and will close the road portion against the Beast at the beginning of March. For the month of January, Wichita will have their longest stint on the road, playing nine of 10 away from home from January 16th to February 11th. Overall, the Thunder will play Allen the most this season as the two fierce rivals will tangle 16 times. The Thunder will finish the season with a three-game home-stand against three separate opponents, ending with the Brampton Beast on Saturday, April 4th.

The CHL's member teams will play in one conference this season, all of which will play a 66-game schedule with 33 home games and 33 on the road. Weekends comprise a large majority of the schedule as 73% of the games will be played on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Across the league, there will be 231 games from late October to early April.

Training camps will open for each team on Monday, October 13th. The Thunder and the Tulsa Oilers will play an exhibition game on Saturday, October 18th starting at 4 p.m. at the Wichita Ice Center. Tickets for the game will cost $12 and will be on sale soon.
