Thunder Adds Former Predators Draft Pick Veilleux

Wichita, KS (Sept. 15th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators and powered by Toyota, announced today the signing of forward Tommy Veilleux to the roster for the 2016-17 season. "Tommy is an agitating type of player that is physical and relentless," stated Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "We wanted young players that were aggressive and Tommy fits that bill. I'm excited to see him in camp and during this season."

Veilleux, 21, will begin his pro career after playing the last four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Victoriaville Tigres and Gatineau Olympiques. In 198 career games in the QMJHL, the 6-foot, 203-pounder racked up 410 penalty minutes to go along with 78 points (35g, 43a). His best season came in 2012-13 as a member of Victoriaville when he posted 28 points (11g, 17a) and 129 penalty minutes in 66 games.

"I'm really happy to come to Wichita and very glad for the opportunity to play for Malcolm," said Veilleux. "I'm going to play hard for my team, my teammates, the fans and hope to improve my game."

A native of St-Odilon, Quebec, Veilleux was a sixth round draft pick (#171) of the Nashville Predators in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, he started with Gatineau before finishing the year with the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League's Terrebonne Cobras where he had 64 points (25g, 39a) and 116 penalty minutes.

He becomes the 18th player added to the preseason roster, joining Louick Marcotte, Mitch Holmberg, Ian Lowe, Alexis Loiseau, Gerrad Grant, Landon Oslanski, Dalton Reum, Vincent Arseneau, Drew Owsley, James Melindy, Matt DeBlouw, Blake Tatchell, Greg Amlong, Ryan Tesink, Alexis Vanier, Brad Cuzner and Jack Rodewald.

The Thunder kicks off their 25th Anniversary season on Saturday, October 15th against the Tulsa Oilers. Season tickets are on sale now. Place a $25 deposit for up to four seats and pay it off in 14 payments. Contact a Thunder representative at the office today.
