Thunder Adds Former Chicago Draft Pick Brown

Wichita, KS (Sept. 25th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, announced today the signing of defenseman Travis Brown.

"I'm very excited to be a part of the Thunder organization," commented Brown. "I've played against Coach Cameron for many years and it's nice to have the chance to be on the same side. He's brought in a talented group this year and I'm excited to get things going."

Brown, 23, begins his third year as a pro after spending the majority of last season with the Allen Americans. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound blueliner was signed last year by the American Hockey League's San Jose Barracuda. After being sent to Allen, he registered 14 points (3g, 11a) in 36 regular season games and added two goals in 11 playoff games.

"Travis is an excellent skater that has the ability to be dangerous off the rush and on special teams," stated Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "I coached against Travis for three years in the WHL and last season when he was in Allen, he is a true pro and will definitely make us a more dangerous team this season."

The former Chicago Blackhawks draft pick (2012, round 5, #149) turned pro in 2015-16 when he signed a one year, two-way agreement with the St. John's IceCaps. He played most the season with the Brampton Beast, collecting 22 points (8g, 14a) in 55 games. He also appeared in three games for the IceCaps, adding one goal.

Prior to turning pro, Brown played five seasons in the Western Hockey League for the Moose Jaw Warriors and Victoria Royals. His best year came in 2014-15 when he piled up 57 points (18g, 39a) in 71 games. Overall, he finished with 181 points (48g, 133a) in 281 career games in the WHL. Brown was also a participant in the Montreal Canadians NHL rookie tournament before the start of the 2015-16 season.
