Thunder Acquires Veteran Lloyd from Wheeling

Wichita, KS (Feb. 25th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators and powered by Toyota, announced that the team has acquired forward Darryl Lloyd from the Wheeling Nailers for cash considerations.

Lloyd, 33, was signed in the offseason by the Nailers after spending each of the last five seasons with the EIHL's Belfast Giants. The veteran forward from Pickering, Ontario recorded at least 15 goals and 30 points or more in three of the five seasons with the Giants. So far this season, Lloyd has six points (4g, 2a) in just 13 games.

Prior to heading overseas, Lloyd played seven years in the American Hockey League, ECHL and Central Hockey League. He made his professional debut with the Laredo Bucks in 2004-05, totaling 35 points and 103 penalty minutes. His best season came in 2010-11 as a member of the Kalamazoo Wings, racking up 51 points (12g, 39a), 130 penalty minutes and helping the Wings reach the Kelly Cup Finals. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound forward has piled up penalty minutes, reaching 100 or more in each season in North America.

The Thunder heads to Fort Wayne tonight to face the Komets at 6:30 p.m. CST.
