Third Period Propels Thunder Past Stingrays

N. Charleston, SC (Oct. 25th) - Trailing by one heading into the third, Wichita scored three times to knock off the South Carolina Stingrays by the final of 3-1 on Tuesday night at North Charleston Coliseum. Matt DeBlouw scored the go-ahead goal at the 11-minute mark and rookie netminder Drew Owsley held the fort for his first professional victory, making 32 saves.

Both teams came out with some really good offensive chances, firing a combined 24 shots on net in the first. Owsley made a great save on a breakaway early on to keep the game scoreless. The two teams went into the second without an advantage on the board.

In the second, South Carolina grabbed the first lead of the game at 8:37. Patrick Gaul stepped away on a two-on-one and scored to make it 1-0. South Carolina limited the Thunder to just two shots in the frame.

Alexis Loiseau got the comeback started four minutes into the third as he weaved around defenders near the Stingrays net and put it through Adam Carlson to tie it at one. DeBlouw recorded his second on the season to make it 2-1, receiving a beautiful pass from Gabriel Gagne. The Stingrays pulled Carlson with just over a minute left, but Alex Krushelnyski found an empty net to close the scoring and 3-1 Thunder victory.

DeBlouw has goals in back-to-back games. Jack Rodewald (1a) and Alex Krushelnyski (1g, 1a) extended their scoring streaks to three games. Gagne collected his first point as a pro with an assist. Owsley stopped 32 of 33 shots to earn his first professional win. Carlson took the loss, stopping 26 of 28 shots.

Wichita went 0-for-2 on the power play. South Carolina was 0-for-2 on the man advantage.

The Thunder has a few days off before taking on Atlanta in a Kids Day Game on Thursday morning starting at 9:05 a.m.
